Leadership in a Disrupted World: A Self-Led Team Retreat
This series of videos and lessons is based on the work of Tod Bolsinger, author of Canoeing the Mountains: Christian Leadership in Uncharted Territory. It is organized in sessions for each topic. There are four topics to choose each with the same structure, one for each session. (Find an overview of topics below)
A brief introduction (which can be read by an individual or read aloud by a group convener)
A 20-minute video featuring Tod Bolsinger speaking on one topic for Leadership in a Disrupted World.
Video content for each session
A set of discussion questions for groups to use following the video
A final reflection that features a section Tod’s book, Canoeing the Mountains that can be read aloud to the group to bring that session to a close
If you are a team leader looking for a way to bring your team together for a one-day learning experience in Adaptive Change, this may be the perfect resource. We give you videos, discussion questions, excerpts from Canoeing the Mountains and exercises for creating good, guided learning discussions. You provided the location (or Zoom link), the coffee and snacks. This is a turn-key "conference" that has been used by teams as small as a handful and by groups of several hundred.

Overview of Topics:
How To Not Waste A Crisis: introduce us to the way that crisis can be—if faced well—an opportunity to move through “imaginative gridlock”. In times of disruption that sometimes comes in the form of a crisis OR from trying to respond to a dramatically changing world, we need to move beyond “trying harder” to be retrained for new terrain” that requires learning and leading through loss.
Leadership For A Changing World: Introduces the Corps of Discovery and the leadership necessary for when “the world in front of you is nothing like the world behind you.”
The Key To The Future: helps leaders understand that the way forward is by both looking back at preserving the healthiest parts of their organizational core values AND looking around to seeing the pain and need of the world that would invite your congregation or organization to bring your gift to bear for the sake of God’s mission in the world
The Most Important Aspect of Leadership: Introduces the concept of sabotage-We will learn together not only how to face sabotage but also how to be formed for thriving through sabotage.
